Hooked on Jerky is free to use and always will be. Running it costs money, and we cover that two ways: display advertising, and affiliate links to gear we genuinely think is worth buying, dehydrators, slicers, thermometers, grinders and the odd biltong-box part.
How paid links are marked
When a link is an affiliate link, we say so. You’ll see it labelled, “Affiliate link · paid commission” or similar, and it carries a rel="sponsored" attribute so search engines see it for what it is. If a link isn’t marked, we’re not being paid for it.
As an Amazon Associate, and through other retailer programs, we may earn from qualifying purchases. When you buy something through one of our links, we may receive a small commission, at no extra cost to you. It doesn’t change the price you pay.
What a commission does not buy
Placement isn’t for sale here. A commission never changes a recommendation, a temperature, a drying time or a cure ratio. If a piece of gear is on this site, it’s because we’d put it on our own bench, and if a cheaper or free option does the job, we say that too. The safety numbers in particular follow USDA guidance and nothing else.
Why we use affiliate links at all
They let the calculators and guides stay free, with no paywall and no account required. It’s the least intrusive way we’ve found to keep the lights on while keeping the advice honest.
